Effective December 31, 2019, Cayen Systems will end support for Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) as an accepted browser for accessing AfterSchool21 and AfterSchool201, as well as other Cayen Systems applications such as HIMSS, GEAR-UP, and Data Propeller.
After this date, users on IE11 will no longer be able to access our applications.
Why we're discontinuing support for IE11
Cayen Systems and TransACT Communications take student data security very seriously. This means taking the necessary precautions to support data collection, transmission, and storage. Our decision to discontinue support for IE11 is rooted in part by the recommendations of IE’s developer, Microsoft:
- Recent articles from Microsoft’s own security professionals advise against using IE11. (Read this article by Chris Jackson of Microsoft.)
- Microsoft also says that IE11 is no longer suitable for browsing the web. They recommend IE11 only be used for internal tools, such as legacy applications that are not updatable.
- Microsoft no longer offers Internet Explorer. From Windows 10 forward, their default browser is Edge—an “evergreen” browser that will not require users to initiate updates.
In order to continue stewardship of student data security within Cayen Systems applications, we’re following Microsoft’s recommendations and moving forward with plans to end support for IE11.
